Mt Pleasant Cemetery a final resting place for over 150 years. The cemetery serves as a peaceful sanctuary and a historical landmark rich with heritage.
This is an area where families come to find relief from their grief and reconnect with past memories. Unfortunately, that is no longer the case. Randy did a phenomenal job of running and maintaining this cemetery. He was the heart of this company and when he departed the place fell apart. It is clear the new owners have no clue how to manage the facility or properly budget to do basic upkeep. If anyone is drawing a salary it should immediately be removed and reallocated back into the facility. At this point, families should come together to formulate a class action lawsuit as I know many people have purchased plots that will never have the opportunity to utilize them. The leaders of the City of Sioux Falls need to address this immediately.
I am very disgusted with Mount pleasant cemetery The lawn hasn't even been taken care of and there's a bunch of weeds around my family's headstones and tall grass and then on my grandma Connie's grave there's no grass on her plot as she passed away two years ago or three very disappointed in this cemetery something needs to be done or I'm going to find a way to report
For years my parents looked forward to Mt Pleasant being their final resting spot. It was always so beautifully cared for. My mom was interred there in 2020 and my dad goes to visit her almost daily. Over the last couple years (after Randy retired) it has steadily gone down hill. The groundskeeper has NOT kept up with the care. There are giant piles of tree brush that have been sitting for years now, the grass is either not cut at all or cut too short. Many graves have had no grass planted on them at all. Another family member of ours passed away last February and they are STILL waiting to have the marker placed as there was a tree on their pre purchased lot. It is simply inexcusable to keep a family waiting that long! I seriously encourage the board members to look into the multiple complaints that have been expressed in other reviews. It is sad to see such a place of beauty falling into disrepair.
Since Randy retired this place has hone to hell. My parents and 2 of my brothers and their wives are buried there. My plots are there with my headstone set. Our area is back to the Southwest and the grass and weeds are so high. No water either. Is Management pocketing money? This angers me very much.
I chose Mount Pleasant Cemetery to purchase my burial plot as they are the only cemetery in South Dakota that offers Green Burials. The cemetery itself is beautiful and well-kept, and I used to feel confident in my choice for my final resting place. I am now experiencing much regret and am absolutely dumbfounded as to how I’ve been treated as a paying customer. I finalized the purchase of my Green Burial plot on March 3rd, 2023. The manager, Mr. Matthew Gage, refuses to mail my contract or respond to any of my inquiries. I have since filed a Small Claims case in Minnehaha County, to which Mr. Gage and Mount Pleasant Cemetery are now in Default. I am absolutely mystified and mortified at how I’ve been treated as a paying patron and admirer of their establishment, and I can’t get my money back to purchase a plot closer to home. I am out over $2k, and now I cannot pursue my last wishes for a Green Burial at the time of my death.
