McAlister-Smith Funeral & Cremation truly exceeded every expectation our family had for Brittany’s service. From the very first meeting, Mrs. Cheryl welcomed us with warmth and compassion, and Gene walked us through every detail with such patience and care. What started as an overwhelming process quickly became manageable because of how they handled us with experience, grace, and genuine kindness. In the days leading up, they said yes to everything we needed. They allowed us to visit the space multiple times, set up the day before, test the sound system, move furniture, and even bring our own waters. Nothing was too much. The morning of the service, we arrived anxious and emotional, but the first person we saw was Mrs. Cheryl at the back entrance, ready with her team and the biggest hug. The team’s support on the day was unmatched. From making sure we had the livestream link, to adding more programs and chairs at the last minute, every single request was handled immediately and with care. There are a lot of special touches that only this team provides but I won’t ruin it for you. After the service, they continued to check on us and ensure we had everything that might have been missed. A member of their team came to drop off all of Brittany’s beautiful flowers so that was one less thing we had to ask for. It really was the simple things. It is rare to find people who combine professionalism with such deep compassion, but that is exactly what we experienced here. Our family knows without a doubt we chose the right place. The best people, the best care, and truly the best hugs. We cannot thank McAlister-Smith Funeral enough for walking alongside us through this moment. We are forever appreciative of this crew.
The team at McAlister Smith Funeral Home in West Ashley are very special people that we owe a world of gratitude for your kindness and guidance after the passing of our dad. From our first initial phone call to the office and the care you took with our dad and family members was outstanding. Even when the car came to the house to pick up our dad and you knew that he was a WWII veteran, and they draped a flag over his body in thanks for military service. Our meeting with Gene to make all the arrangements, and the fact that he knew we had also used McAlister Smith for our dear mom 5 years prior, made it all a little less sad. All of our family is from out of state, and we had a small window of time to get the arrangements done and Gene and Cheryl along with their amazing office team were able to get everything completed in a very timely manner and with great communication. We can’t thank you all enough for your kindness and understanding during a very sad and difficult time. I wish I could give you 10 stars!!
I wanted to take a moment to express my deep gratitude for Gene and Cheryl Pardee during a profoundly difficult time in my family's life. Since my mother passed away on July 23, 2025, they have been instrumental in helping us navigate through our grief. From the moment she passed at the hospital to the present day, when I needed copies of her obituary, their support has been invaluable. I highly recommend McCalister-Smith (West Ashley) for anyone in need during such challenging times.
I will be eternally grateful for the care and support that I received from Mona Barger at McAlister-Smith. My sweet dog passed away in the early hours of Christmas Eve. Mona came to our home to retrieve his remains on Christmas Eve in Kiawah within 2 hours of my call. She did so with much respect, care and reverence for his remains. As we were out of town and my adult children were taking care of him, we had to watch by FaceTime and saw how carefully and reverently she handled him- 64 pounds. We were able to get back in town and view his remains and he was placed so peacefully for a final viewing. We were given time with him and made arrangements for his cremation. I can’t express how grateful I am for how Mona cared for our sweet Dexter’s remains. Thank you Mona for your care and respect.
I just got a postcard from McC-S. An image of a char-grilled hamburger, inviting me to a lunch to learn about cremation in October. Really?? Do better McCalister... This is beyond tasteless. Fire your marketing person. Pun intended!
