Smart Cremation

Pre-paid cremation makes sense. The cost comparison for working through a funeral home is seriously; (shockingly) higher. We went to the seminar offered by Smart Creation, I did a little research into Smart Creation prior to arriving and was relieved and impressed. They have a AAA+ rating with the Better Business Bureau, not an easy rating to accomplish. When both of my parents died they had prepared using a different company who unfortunately was sold. But this was in 2008. I have to say the experience left me so grateful. This is the kindest and best thing for you to do for those left after you. Smart Creation has a lot to say for it. I have no reservation recommending to others. Smart Creation has positive reviews, they have a good rated bank holding the trust fund to hold what you paid, ready to be dispensed at the time you pass. Again something that needed some looking into. The experience at the seminar to present what they do was informative and I was really and pleased with. No hard sales, I very much appreciate the empathy and reasonable approach from Richard of Smart Creation. Ultimately I am pleased to give a high recommendation

After reviewing five different cremation services we chose to go with Smart Cremations and are very satisfied with our choice. Questions we were going to ask were answered before we could ask them. This experience has been extremely upsetting during an already devastating time. When I asked about doing a viewing for my father, I was told that viewings were not offered. Later, when we went to pick up my father’s ashes at the Portland location, the staff there, who were kind and professional, told us that a viewing was actually possible. Finding this out after it was too late was heartbreaking, as family members were denied the chance to see my father and say goodbye due to incorrect information. Additionally, there have been ongoing issues with receiving my father’s death certificate. He passed away in November, and it is now January and I still do not have it. I was given multiple excuses for the delays, and now my calls and messages are going unanswered. Losing a parent is hard enough without added stress from misinformation and lack of communication. While the Portland staff were wonderful, the administrative side of this company handled things very poorly. I would not recommend Smart Cremation and would not want another family to go through this.

My mother purchased this plan several years ago and hospice made the phone call when she passed. From then on we (her biological children) had no idea where they took her body. Hospice did not care to inform us, their job was done. Smart Cremation did not return phone calls, and to top it off the rep did not even have his voicemail set up. We tried to find out where she was to no avail. I WISH I had been given the option to pick up her remains, but no, she came through the mail. If you purchase this, please communicate to your family what will happen. It was only by seeing the box of her remains when I stopped by her house that I realized they had taken her to another state for cremation. It felt very crass, just another body to process and not even an effort to communicate when we had questions. I am not a fan.

My husband and I were not planning to purchase anything when we went to this presentation. After hearing about Smart Cremation, we couldn't pass it up. We had discussed getting something for when the inevitable happens, but I'm glad we hadn't planned anything yet. The more we heard, the more our minds were changed. We are satisfied that we made the right decision to get our affairs in order. This gives me peace of mind. Thank you Smart Cremation.
