Compassionate employees. My mom was just place on Friday. She is now with my sister add dad. The grounds are beautiful and well kept.
River View is a lovely well maintained cemetery. The staff could not be more kind, compassionate or helpful particularly the Building Operations & Administration Manager.
this is easily the most gorgeous cemetery in portland. it’s very large and is set in the west hills—so there are views of mount hood, the river, and lots of forest throughout the cemetery. there are also a couple of mausoleums near the top. whenever i’ve visited there are plenty of other bicyclists, although some roads throughout the cemetery are reserved for cars.
This serene and stately cemetery is sited near the edge of urban activity south of downtown Portland, Oregon in 1882. The cemetery is the final resting place of many of Portland's early leaders, including Simon Benson, George Abernethy, Abigail Scott Duniway, Henry Weinhard, Albertina Kerr, and even Virgil Earp, US Marshal in Tombstone, Arizona, Union soldier, and farmer. The forested and landscaped 360 acres offer a true oasis from the bustle of urban life and its location near the Willamette River provides a wonderful vantage of Mount Hood and Cascade Mountains. I found that the staff at the cemetery were very knowledgeable, professional and friendly, and gave me map copies to find some of my descendants and a few of the local "celebrities".
I experienced one of the most devastating events of my life this year when my son unexpectedly died from a drug overdose. I was the one who found him in our home, and after the medical examiner and the police left, it was up to me to make the decision of what to do with his body. I was already out of my mind with grief and shock and had no idea what to do. My BIL suggested I call Riverview Cemetery and Maleah was like an angel, gently explaining the process and guiding me through each step. I was especially grateful that she mentioned we could have a viewing, which I hadn't even thought of. They were able to make him look very presentable and two days later, our whole extended family was able to come and say goodbye. It was such a beautiful movement of closure for everyone, albeit extremely heart-wrenching of course. I'm so thankful she mentioned we could do this as I had zero experience with this type of thing. She also explained all the legalities of the death certificates, etc., and helped me make all these decisions. She made everything so easy. I hope you never experience what my family and I went through. I suppose I could have gone a cheaper route, but Riverview was more than worth every penny for the peace of mind most of all. Thank you, Maleah, for your kindness and compassion in our hour of darkness. I'll never forget it.
