I heard good shepherd is taking care of the man that lost his wife, home and 4 dogs in a house fire. They are cremating his dogs for free. This is such a nice and thoughtful thing to do. God bless.
If you are looking for an stress-free cremation process for your animal please do not use Good Shepard. This company used to be run so smoothly and the staff was always very kind and empathetic. Scott was a favorite among so many before he left. I am a veterinary professional at a hospital who uses and has used good shepard for years for their cremation services. Recently my family dog passed away and we elected to have his remains sent to good shepard. Their staff has contacted us twice asking for payment when we had already relayed to them this was a staff pet. It’s been almost 3 weeks since my doggy passed away and his remains have been waiting there this whole time without being returned to me because they “forgot” to mark him as a staff pet to be returned. I called up there today and spoke to a woman who told me “I don’t know what happened there, I don’t work in that department.” It seems their staff is incapable of adapting to changes in their environment and therefore is causing my family and I so much more added anxiety and stress. Please do better
FYI, before you pick this place, you should know they won’t tell you where your pet’s cremains are scattered. Corporate policy is more important to them than compassionate care. For context: our vet’s office filled out the form, incorrectly stating that we did not want our pet’s ashes back. By the time we figured it out, it was too late, and she had already been communally cremated. I understand the inability to potentially give back the ashes of a pet this not ours. However, not only do they not have any kind of process or plan in place for when something like this happens, they also refuse to share where they spread pets’ ashes. I was told that they don’t share it because “people going there, like vets who made the mistake our vet did, could desecrate the site or scoop up the ashes” - as if we, as humans, don’t have clearly marked gravesites that strangers are welcome to see and walk through. I was eventually put through to their owner, Charles, who had no compassion for the situation and then started giving me a weird, right-wing political scolding about the situation that somehow led to Elon Musk. In all, I think it’s incredibly cruel to tell me that, in the midst of this terrible mistake that was made, I don’t even get to know where my pet’s ashes are scattered. For all I know, they dump them in a parking lot somewhere. Because of this experience, I will never use Good Shepherd’s services for another pet.
Good Shepherd pet services in Concord really helps takes some of the pain associated with a pet’s death. They treat them with dignity and respect, and offer a lot of options for pet owners to memorialize their beloved pets. Losing a pet is very difficult and it’s nice to know that there are businesses that care to make this difficult time a little easier. I am very grateful that places like The Good Shepherd exist in the world!
EDIT: After writing this review and thinking about it, I tried to move the plaque to the front of the box to cover the scratch/dent. The plaque bent easily when I took it off the top of the box and did not lay flat so I called John and told him the situation and asked if they could replace the plaque and he did not hesitate in doing this for me. John is truly a kind soul, someone like him should be in this business. He is so friendly and kind and I can tell he really cared about my cat but also that he cares about me. Thank you, John. This is a tough review to write, pet loss is super hard either way and sometimes people want someone to be mad at. That being said, I had a particular situation, my cat died before her euth appt and after hours so she went to an e-vet. I had to arrange pick up there, instead of my usual vet, but they were super accommodating. I had a great experience with everyone there, John was especially kind. The first lady I spoke with to get up this different pick up did not offer me any condolences and acted as though we were robots. As a Christian service, this was a little unsettling, as it was obviously new for me. They were efficient in the options I purchased and I got my cat back from my usual vet in good time. I true complaint is that the plaque on the top of her box is blatantly off center and there is a noticeable dent/scratch on the front of the box. This is not a cheap thing and also something I would keep forever, I would suggest they make sure there is no damage to the products and if folks opt for the engraved plaque, they should let the customer put it on the box themselves. Ultimately I would use them again, their prices were good and (most of) the people were nice, but I would also make a point to request they let me apply the plaque myself and make sure the box has no damage on it.
