Overall I was very happy with the process up until my father was to be cremated. After paying for the service I was told that I would receive a call once he’d been cremated. After waiting for about a week and a half I called the facility myself to inquire about how much longer it would take. The person over the phone let me know the process was done and that his remains would be shipped out that day. I then had to ask if I’d receive a tracking number and she told me yes, that I’d receive a call with the tracking number once it had been shipped. No such luck. I called around 10 AM and waited all day for no call. I ended up checking through Informed Delivery to see what packages were on their way to me and thankfully I was able to see it there. It had been shipped out around noon. I could understand if the package was taken later in the day but it was at noon! I received the package the next day along with everything I had ordered. But the lack of communication, especially after everything had gone so smoothly, was off putting and frustrating.

This was an out of state process and it made my dad's passing that much more difficult. Reading the reviews I thought the staff of CS of Charlotte would be organized and make this as painless as possible. But they didn't. They were super unorganized which to me is a sign of disrespect for my time and my loss. My sisters and I filled out our own forms for the agreement of my dad's processing & faxed it to them & I followed up with a phone call confirming they received it and confirmed the delivery address of my father's remains. So they had 3 copies of the confirmed delivery address. A couple days later I email them about a few other questions and I never receive an e-mail back. I receive a call about a few days later just so they can confirm the delivery address at 7 AM (my time PT). Because of my grieving I was already not getting a lot of sleep but I proceeded to confirm the address for the 2nd time. As I was just about to finish telling the girl on the phone what the address was she then interrupts me and says she has to take another phone call and puts me on hold for 15 minutes. All I had to tell her was the state and zip code but she made me wait 15 minutes before I could finish. The phone etiquette was lacking. It also effected the rest of my day with sleep & left me feeling less confident about them processing my dad's body. After finally raising enough money to get the cremation paid I call Cremation Society again to go over delivery costs, processing fees, and then that's when they decide to let me know there is a holding fee per day after I tell them I needed time to raise money. But I accept it and move on and I ask them to put an order down for 2 death certificates. We go over the costs and I ask her to send me an itemized receipt--- I get two receipts but they are not itemized. So I email them again about the receipts and the costs so I have a record of it but I do not receive an e-mail back. I then call them to find out if they have processed my father and ask about the 2 death certificates and got another verbal confirmation of everything and it all seemed perfect. A week later we received my father's ashes but I didn't receive any of his belongings he had in the hospital or the 2 death certificates. So I call them again to find out more about the deliveries of the other items. They confirm that his belongings are on the way but there is no record of me buying 2 death certificates. I then ask the lady on the phone what exactly I paid for-- and I noticed the break down of each item cost was different from what the last girl told me. Then I share with the girl on the phone that this process with them was not very smooth. She then proceeds to tell me she is sorry but that it was only difficult because this is an out of state process and everything had been done through e-mail. I shared with her that none of this was done through email because no one ever responded to any of my emails. Being apologetic is one thing but to make my situation the reason for their incompetence is another. Cremation Society of Charlotte I suggest you change your procedures for out of state process and look into providing the following.. an itemized receipt, a tracking number for anything you send out, hiring people who are organized and actually check their email because this is far from processing an ordinary Amazon package. You are in the business of processing people's loved ones and the attitude & lack of organization suggests otherwise. My family and I have been dealing with this process longer than we want to.
The staff of Cremation Society of Charlotte was very courteous and understanding. They were able to answer all of my questions and were extremely patient with me, as I was having a very difficult time with the passing of my loved one. They made everything so simple and were able to complete the entire process within 3 days of my loved one passing away. I cannot express how grateful I am for them, for making this difficult process so much easier for me and allowing me to be at peace with my loved one!
A representative gave misleading information about my son's urn. it caused the family not to have the urn for his service.
