I got my dog there over a year ago and brought home a kitten yesterday. There’s usually a wait (they’re understaffed I imagine, but do a great job). That being said, even with a full waiting room, I was in and out in 30 minutes last time. The animals seem very well cared for. I dropped off my Foster dog there a few years ago and I was crying and the guy who helped me was so sweet and kind. Thank you!!!
If you’re looking to foster or adopt, please consider Sydney. She is absolutely amazing, she is so so sweet! She was so friendly with other animals and people. We walked around uptown for about 2 miles and she was so eager to continue exploring. I truly hope she goes to a loving and caring home considering what an amazing pup she is. As for the staff at this shelter, they are also very welcoming and helpful throughout the whole process. With the help of Taj, I was able to take Sydney out for a daycation.
I adopted my cat Tiger here 5 years ago. He was a kitten who had been bottle fed from infancy by the staff there. He was the best cat in there. Happy , energetic , interactive. When I went to view the cats he was right there at the front grabbing at me and being very vocal. Actually he was the most social. And the staff told me how sweet he was. Today just looking at him, I thought about how I had my eye on the other kitten (a black female with white paws ) who reminded me of a former cat. This kitten wasn’t ready for adoption. As a result they suggested Murphy ( the playful social happy kitty ) who I eventually named Tiger. He is my pride and joy. I’ve had several cats but he is truly one of a kind. I hope the staff can see he is still happy and well taken care of. He is very loving and loyal , and knows he’s mine. He always makes sure to get back to me. He’s always been healthy, and well behaved. He’s interacted well with other animals, he is so smart. I do believe that the care they provided him with played a major role in his health and personality. I’m so grateful. I feel blessed to have been given Tiger. He is truly a gift. Thank you so much.
THE WORST. I have had nothing but problems. Lets start off by when I was looking through the website wanting to adopt a dog. I found my dog and called the shelter during open hours. When I called, it rang until it went to voicemail. I called again because I always call twice. Nothing.. I called during another time that day, still nothing. tried different days, nothing. THEY NEVER PICK UP THE PHONE, and leaving a voice message takes DAYS to get back to and so does email. They have very slow response times, which sucks when what you’re talking about is urgent. I went back and forth with them through email trying to reschedule my dogs appointment with them. They told me my reasoning wasnt valid, so I had no choice but to bring him in for his appointment which is fine and understandable i guess… I went into the shelter and dropped him off, the lady at the desk was nice and attentive to my questions.. I asked what part of the shelter my dog would be staying at and got told he would be staying in the STRESS FREE part of the shelter, which made me very happy to hear since he was from that shelter before, and is traumatized from it. It was great until I had someone pick him up for me. I got told there was NO one at the front desk to help with the line of customers up front. Eventually someone came and took her back to pick up my dog, and got told CONES are NOT provided. WHICH WOULD HAVE BEEN NICE TO KNOW PRIOR TO THE APPOINTMENT. I got 2-3 calls confirming the appointment days prior and no one told me he needed a cone, that it wasnt provided like most vets provide them. This is very unprofessional on their end. I dont mind buying the cone for him, the problem was they dont tell pet parents they need to bring their own cone. Next thing i noticed as soon as i got home to my dog was the amount he was shedding.. the shedding was due to stress, which was CRAZY to me because I was told he would be in the stress free part of the shelter. I was lied to… and i get going to the vet is stressful but dont advertise something as “stress free” when its not. some people might have had a good experience with them, but the whole adoption process was just too long and just not a good experience for me. They did give me my life long best friend though, the only reason they are getting two stars.
My daughter had been fostering animals for about a year. She told me she hoped she could make a difference because so many animals were in this shelter and they are always over capacity. Recently she went in an at that time there was only one cat at the shelter. My daughter felt for this cat who's name is "Theo" so she decided to foster him. She was told the cat wasn't very friendly and that he actually hissed at a shelter worker. Still, she wanted to give him a home at least until he was adopted. Honestly based on his age and his duration at the shelter she thought that was unlikely. She took him home and my granddaughter and daughter fell in love with him. He was a loveable cat and nothing like the shelter described. My daughter bought him food, toys, treats and litter out of the kindness of her heart. After having him for a month and a half she received an email from a coordinator that they wanted her to return Theo. The coordinator claimed so they could put him in the pet store so he could be adopted. My daughter and granddaughter were heartbroken. A women came and picked him up. A week later while my daughter was looking to foster another animal she found Theo was not brought to a pet store and actually is being fostered by the woman who picked him up. In addition the photos and description of Theo is the ones my daughter created. My daughter wrote the coordinator who had wrote her originally and asked why she stated Theo was going to a pet store for exposure to be adopted when he clearly did not go to one. The coordinator has yet to respond and that's because she lied!. My daughter fostered Theo and other animals out of the kindness of her heart and to be lied to and than ignored by a coordinator at this shelter is despicable. I think one of the reasons this shelter is overwhelmed is because people like my daughter are washing there hands of it and that's a sad narrative. It's pretty sad when you treat people who are fostering animals the way you do and than have the audacity to cry about how over capacity you are. Shame on you!
