There is no one better than Harris Funeral Home. Period. Over 50 years ago, my 20-year-old father had to face the unimaginable — burying both of his parents just one year after emigrating from Ukraine to the United States. Still learning the language, the customs, and how life worked in a new country, he was suddenly responsible not only for himself but for his two sisters as well. At a time when he should have been just starting out, he was instead navigating grief, paying the mortgage, keeping the lights and heat on, and figuring out who was who and what was what. That’s when Harris Funeral Home — and specifically Grandpa Harris — stepped in. He saw my dad’s pain, his strength, his struggle, and told him, simply and with immense compassion: “Pay when you can. $5 at a time if you have to.” That act of grace has stayed in our family’s hearts ever since. Now, more than five decades later, history has come full circle as my father recently had to say goodbye to his beloved wife — my stepmother. And again, the Harris family was there — this time led by Ricky Harris and his amazing team. The same care, the same attention to detail, the same deep respect and humanity were there every step of the way. The Harris family has served this community for generations — and it shows in everything they do. From the moment you walk in, you’re not just another family going through loss — you are their family. Every small detail is handled with professionalism, tenderness, and a deep understanding of how to help people through the hardest days of their lives. Though I no longer live in Irondequoit, there is no question where my final arrangements — and those of my sisters and family — will be handled. It will be at Harris Funeral Home. I can't say enough good things about Paul Harris's funeral home. Our mother had passed away and unfortunately our family didn't have the means for a traditional burial. Rick Harris did everything he could to bring the cost down and he knew my mother was part of the Ukrainian community so he reached out and made a GoFundMe account so the Church's Community might be able to donate towards the funeral. A few days went by and Rick called and said that a lot of people had donated and my mother was going to have the traditional burial that she always wanted. I couldn't believe the good people in Rochester would be able to help so much. I also have to say that jane, another funeral director was so helpful to me in my time of need. She was so kind to come to my home to get my mother's clothes for her burial. I hope she will stay with Paul Harris for a long long time. Thank you Rick and Jane for making a horrible day a little bit easier with all of your help. From start to finish, they handled everything with such compassion, care, and respect. They truly understand that our pets are family, and they went above and beyond to ensure a peaceful farewell. The staff was incredibly kind and patient, giving us the time we needed to say goodbye. The cremation service was handled with dignity, and the beautiful memorial touches they provided were deeply appreciated. Knowing that my pet was in such caring hands brought me a sense of peace during an incredibly difficult time. I can’t recommend Pets at Peace enough to anyone facing this heartbreaking loss. We worked with Dave for my grandmas funeral. He was very kind and did an excellent job helping with anything we needed. During a very hard time for us, we appreciated very much how smoothly everything went. He did an excellent job letting us know what to expect. Thank you to the lady who ran the catering in the family center. She was very kind and made sure we were well taken care of.
