I am so disgusted and disappointed by RBS. My sister's dog got loose from the house on 9/5/25 crossed the street at 49th and Ames and got hit by a bus. My sister physically picked up the dog from the street and then I helped her carry her to a side street. I called the human society at 6:30 am for help to come pick up the body. I told them I would wait outside with the dog till dispatch came. At 7:38am I called them again and asked what was taking so long, they assured me that they would be there soon and should be heading out in the next 20 mins. They were in the middle of shift change. I've already been waiting an hour and it would of been nice to know they were never in route to begin with. I received another call at 8:42am saying they needed a 50 dollar payment before they could even come get the deceased dog.I said so you guys still haven't even left yet!? We've been sitting here traumatized and now yall expect payment. My sister paid the fee no problem but I had to ask them why is there a fee in the first place? I understand the collection team needs to get paid and have a job to do but what do they expect people without the money to do exactly? Just throw the animal in the back dumpster or burry it in backyard. Oh no, but that would be classified as animal cruelty. All of that aside it took then till 9:40am to get to the scene of a 6:30am call. Take a second to image your dog of 8 years was ran over by a school bus you find her in the middle of street you work up enough strength to pick her up and move her so she not repeatedly ran over and you're begging for help of her body to please be removed ans you have sit outside for 3hours with her disheveled body on full display to neighbors, children, and other bystanders. My sister did not have the will in the moment to report everything but I sure will! The way this was handle was foul and inhumane and boarder line racist. My cat passed a few years ago peacefully in my closet of old age and dispatchers were there in less than 20mins at 3am in the morning (when I lived out West) but in my sister case it was not an emergency. They said the reason it took so long was because it didn't classify as an emergency? I'm sorry but what is the point of having an emergency rainbow 24hr service if they're going to pick and choose who and how they want to help a deceased animal. Then to ask for payment while shocked and grieving. In my opinion, It should be waived! Or at least more affordable. People don't get to chose when their animal passes. NHS makes enough in donations more so then children hospitals to support their providers. Also, 90 percent of their staff are volunteers anyway so I don't understand how they were so cold and heartless about the situation and money hungry first. The lady even had the nerve to ask if we can afford it with an attitude. To be fair and state the good with the bad. On a positive note once the guy came to the scene and seen everything he was empathetic about taking so long and our sudden loss. He said we could take our time with cremation decisions anf they would call us. Which we appreciated! I write all this to say please retrain your staff and let them proceed with better communicat Ion communication! Waiting around wasn't the main issue it was more so assuring us they were on their way for hours only to be bombarded with payment first is cold and a lack of concern or care.
When our cat Emily had to be put to sleep, our vet provided information for Rainbow Bridge. We were very impressed with the compassionate way the situation was handled. Emily now rests in a lovely wooden box in our house.
I went to a place I adopted my baby over a decade ago and when she passed I took her to the very place we got her. I went there trusting this was the same place that set my family up with not only a pet but an extension to our family. I was horrified by the lack of empathy and compassion for loosing someone as sweet and loving and compassionate as my fur Baby Kanika. The day I walked in they were prices at me when I was not a clear mind to give any authorization and understanding of such an abrupted way to make people pull out a wallet understanding what we are paying for when the only thought now was I am dropping off my baby that died. It was heartless and I received my cat my precious baby in a pouch wrapped in Tissue paper that my friend ended up paying for because I was so heartbroken and not thinking straight that I left my wallet at home. I feel a proper way of doing this should be more sensitive. You took my phone number you could of called at later time rather than just being so abrupted. I would never of agreed to putting my cat in in Tissue Paper. She is worth far more than that and now I am taking one step further and purchasing a more personalized box and someone else will receive my business. Also Forget Me Nots are cliche'. When you send out cards I know you think its a way of sending your deepest sympathy but it also looks ways to manufactured and looks disingenuous and to try hard.
Humane society picked up my Dogue de Bordeaux for a $30 fee and cremation options were presented. I elected to have a private cremation for $120 in order to bury his remains. Staff was very friendly and helpful and remains were ready for pickup within 3 business days.
My experience was very sad, But I now believe my beloved Siberian Husky, Casey will be waiting to jump into my arms like she has done before in life.
