Today I heard really sad news about the condition of what once was a beautiful well cared for cemetery. A dear friend posted pictures of the current conditions of the grounds. My Grandfather worked there as a landscaper in the late 50’s until 1969. He took great pride in its pristine appearance . He would be devastated to see it now and for my friends who have family and friends buried there, they all deserve better.
I just returned from the cemetery & I am mad & sad. My dad has been buried there for 25 years and in past years it hasn't been awesome, but this is the worst I've ever seen it. My mom has not passed away and I hate the thought of burying her in her plot, next to my dad. I couldn't even find his marker. Dead grass, rest of the grass dry & the weeds - Russian thistle, dandelions! My dad was a WWII veteran. Not a flag anywhere! Also, made my stop at Terrace Gardens Cemetery. They had flags at each veteran's grave! Is it too much to ask to have the cemetery looking decent, 1 weekend out of the year?
In years past, the grass was green and healthy. By Memorial weekend, the cemetery was mowed and trimmed. This year is the worst I've ever seen it! I couldn't find my family's resting place because of all the dead grass laying around covering many of the headstone/markers. I had to uncover several. I feel there should be someone to trim all around each stone and rake. There were many piles of grass and debri around where others had to do the same as I had. Two men road by on a golf cart, so I shook a handful of grass, but they drove on to the caretaker shack. I walked to the shack and voiced my opinions, but was given lame excuses, which has prompted me to write to the mayor. I feel the whole thing is disrespectful and disgraceful! Other parts of the cemetery seemed ok, but also had dead grass laying around in places and along the roadways which needs attention as well. I wish my loved ones were planted somewhere else!
If I could give them 0 stars, I would. My great grandmother passed away after 100 years of living. So, naturally, we had several pictures, the pastor, and her ashes to bury. The family paid $3,200 to have a ceremony setup and a fiberglass container for her ashes. There was not a tent (as promised) or chairs provided. A folding table was set over the site. When we moved the table to set her ashes into the ground next to great grandpa, the hole was covered with a piece of plywood and flags. And ON TOP OF THAT, we couldn't set her ashes and belongings into the ground to get closure because "it wasn't ready yet". I spent hundreds of dollars to fly across the country for this funeral and it was absolutely disappointing. My great grandmother deserved a proper burial and my family deserves closure. I hope no one has to go through the devastating experience that we had to endure. Do yourself a favor, work with someone else.
My grandfather had purchased 4 plots when they were just opening Sunset Memorial Gardens many years ago. He passed in 1954. We then placed four more family members. I worked with Brandi with prearrangements for my husband and I. Thank You Brandi for sending me the pictures of our stone. Even clearing snow to take the picture! The grounds always are kept up and attractive. Very friendly and professional to deal with something so very hard to do.
