Imagine the best surgeon in the country working on your mortally wounded much-loved companion, treating you with the utmost courtesy, patience, and responsiveness, and you have Dr Jude Bordelon. Baton Rouge could use 10 surgeons like him, sadly there is only him. My Vet daughter and I so appreciated his thorough presentation of the difficult options. We decided to authorize the CT scan for best surgery prep and we had a great outcome. Can not say enough good things about Dr Bordelon and the staff at Sherwood and BRVS. The vibe here is like no other place I have ever been.
Dr. Yates is awesome. Took his time speaking to me in detail about my little Stella. Very compassionate and eased my mind tremendously. Looks like Stella is on the road to Recovery and I can’t thank him and his team enough for taking such great care of her.
My pomeranian, Phoenix, was diagnosed with primary hyperparathyroidism so needed a parathyroidectomy which must be done by a board certified surgeon. I live in East Texas and was referred to Dallas but they would not be able to get Phoenix in for several months. My primary vet was wonderful and ended up referring me to Baton Rouge Veterinary Specialists. Its about a 5 hour trip so I booked a hotel (Home 2 Suites is a wonderful option if you are traveling, pet friendly and is only about 6 minutes away) and Phoenix and I made the trip. We had our consultation on a Monday and Dr Bordelon explained that we really needed a cat scan to confirm the diagnosis and identify which gland was diseased. I agreed that was necessary so Phoenix stayed at the hospital to get the cat scan. Dr Bordelon called me that night to let me know that they were able to confirm the diagnosis and identify the culprit gland. Knowing that I was out of town, he scheduled surgery for the next day (Tuesday). I got a call once the surgery had started and again when it was over letting me know that Phoenix was doing well. After the gland is removed, there is a risk of calcium dipping too low so Phoenix had to stay a few days to be closely monitored. Dr Bordelon himself called me every morning and every evening with a status update which I appreciated more than words can say. This was not something I expected but it relieved so much of my anxiety. I was pretty worried about the surgery but felt that he was in the best possible hands with Dr Bordelon. If I'm ever in the position to need a surgeon again, I would opt to travel to Baton Rouge again even though Dallas is closer. I just can't imagine getting the level of care that I received at BRVS anywhere else. Phoenix was cleared to leave the Saturday after the surgery so I picked him up and we made the trip home. While he is still on a calcium supplement and under vet care, he has recovered from the surgery and is back to his chipper little self and acting like a puppy again. The only caveat is after all of the attention and getting to travel with Mommy, he's even more spoiled than he was!
Dr. Graham and staff gave us great care and service in our visits. You can see how much they love their patients and want to see them get healthy. She does a fantastic job explaining everything and following up to see the progress and if we have any additional questions.
The entire staff at Baton Rouge Veterinary Referral Center is great!!! Always friendly, efficient and very knowledgeable. After my last visit this past week, they went the extra mile calling local pharmacies trying to secure a certain medication for my dog. Dr. Graham is in constant touch with me, even when on vacation.
