The Worst Experience at a Funeral Home After losing a loved one, my family and I were treated with complete disrespect from the moment we walked into Southern Cremation Society on Dixie Hwy (4438 Dixie Hwy). Instead of compassion, we were made to feel like we were a bother. The gentleman there refused to go over any details with us—we left with nothing but a receipt, no signed documents or clear information. When a family member tried to help make a payment over the phone, he refused to hold the phone and insisted it be put on speaker. He was extremely rude, and when we asked about urn options, he told us we could leave simply because I had questions. I was grieving and upset, and when I forgot my uncle’s year of birth, he mocked me by saying, “How y’all going to come unprepared?” I apologized, explaining my mind was all over the place, but the lack of compassion was shocking. When it came time to pick up my uncle’s ashes, he was suddenly polite about the urns, but when I asked about getting a copy of my uncle’s fingerprints, he dismissively said, “You can’t now—he’s cremated.” Of course I understood that, but that’s something that should have been offered or explained beforehand. This entire process was one of the worst experiences I could imagine during such a painful time. I truly hope not everyone is treated this way, but if this is how he operates, I honestly don’t know how this business continues to run. Families deserve compassion, dignity, and respect—not what we experienced here.
my mom was cremated there and my sister was on the paper to pick up my mother and I couldn't not pick my mom up bc my sister name was on the paper work and mine was not so when my sister call there today they said my cousin pick her ashes up how did that happed if my sister is the only one to pick up her ashes will she sign act like she was my sister without checking her id I will get them into trouble for let my cousin pick them up without let my sister know or me know
This is the second time my family has used the services of Southern Cremation Society. I thought the rudeness and complete disregard for human decency was a one off, unfortunately I was wrong, and obviously I am not alone in my opinion. Read the reviews . The one constant is the describing of Daniel and how he is rude , disrespectful and void of any decency and human compassion. I find this to be incredibly accurate. He is obviously held to no particular standard by the owners , who should address this situation immediately if not sooner. Daniel is not suitable to work with a public in which at minimum requires kindness, compassion and empathy. Sadly Daniel has none of these characteristics or qualities. Shame on you Daniel, and shame on the owners for allowing you to perpetrate abusive and belittling behavior on an unsuspecting community of good people going through what is most likely the worst time in their lives. It’s inexcusable.
Daniel was great to work with during such a difficult time! He was very thorough with explaining all of the paperwork and the processes. We never once felt rushed! He communicated often and even offered to pour the ashes into an urn for us. The price includes everything and it was honestly a really easy process other than the emotions that go with it.
I want to give a better rating because of the original person I spoke with that made the actual arrangements with me but she isn't the regular director. When Daniel came back I just assumed I'd continue to have good kind service. I was wrong, I called to make arrangements to pickup family members remains and was informed he only worked until 3. And he was sure I was told that. I said I didn't remember that and the website repeatedly says 24 hrs so I thought they'd be available at least until 5:00. He raised his voice slightly with much agitation and said well I can't be available for you all 24/7 I'm already on my phone that long. I was shocked. I'm mourning a great loss and put my trust in this company and the director was rude. Never again.
