Please, if you respect your loved one or animal, do not use Siler Funeral Services. Last week, my dog was euthanized, and Siler was the recommended service from Animal Control. The death of my pet was sudden and quite tragic, so I was looking for ways to honor him through cremation and paw/nose prints. The easiest way to describe our experience is this: -Nancy, the only person I ever had contact with, only communicated through text message, which I found unprofessional. There was no personal touch, no voice to reassure me during this difficult time. It felt like I was dealing with a robot, not a human being who understood the pain of losing a beloved pet. -The estimated time was 4-5 days max. After reminding them of my pet, I was able to pick up his remains 10 days after him being transported to them -The "place of business" was in an unmarked lot that looked residential instead of business. I must have been in the wrong area or trespassing on someone's property. There were many cars in the gravel lot (some of which appeared to be missing windows). There was clutter all over the front door, so I could not even see where I should be going to knock. Little dogs also ran out when Nancy walked out of her house. There was no "Hey, are you ok with dogs?" or any warning. I did not feel safe in this area, as there was no communication on where I should go to pick up my dog. -Siler Funeral Service offered paw prints and nose prints as an add-on. These prints are horrid. I cannot imagine making these imprints and thinking this was a good job and honoring. They are messy, careless, and disrespectful to a passed loved one. ***When calling to discuss our displeasure, Nancy said, "he was pretty stiff/cold when I got him." This is not the type of response one should give when discussing a loved one's passing. -My dog's collar, remains, clay prints, paper print, and canvas all REEK of cigarettes. The smell is so strong that it's hard to focus on the memories these items are supposed to evoke. They have been airing out for three days now and still smell. It's a constant reminder of the lack of care and respect my pet received at Siler Funeral Service. I understand that I had my dog pass. This is not the same as if a human loved one were to pass. Even so, I feel awful that I sent a member of my family to a "funeral service" that allows such careless disrespect for both the living and deceased. Any death is a tragic experience. This service made every feeling worse. Not only can I not have my loved one, but now I feel like I betrayed him by sending him somewhere he was not adequately cared for. I tried to communicate with the company to find a resolution to this issue, or at least to inform them so that it doesn't happen again. Instead of a conversation, it was a quick phone call with "Well, sorry about that" tacked on at the end, and it only resulted in no resolution. What's done is done. My family dog cannot be honored in paw prints, nose prints, ashes, or even his collar due to the processing of this "funeral service."
