Finding Animal Cremation Services Near You
How to locate cremation services for all types of pets in your local area.
Not all crematoriums handle all animals. When my daughter's rabbit passed, I assumed any pet cremation service would help. I was wrong—the first two I called only handled cats and dogs. Here's how to find the right provider for your pet.
Does Your Pet Type Matter?
Yes. Dogs and cats are standard everywhere. Small mammals like rabbits and guinea pigs are accepted by most facilities. Birds, reptiles, and exotic pets may require specialized providers.
Large animals like horses need equine crematoriums with bigger equipment.
Where Do You Start Looking?
For common pets (dogs, cats, small mammals): Your vet is the easiest starting point. Most have cremation arrangements.
For exotic pets: Search specifically for 'exotic pet cremation' or your pet type plus 'cremation' and your location.
For horses and livestock: Search for 'equine cremation' or contact large animal veterinarians.
What Should You Ask?
Do you cremate this type of animal? Don't assume.
Do you have experience with this species? Experience matters for proper handling.
What will the ashes look like? Small animals produce very little ash.
Can you do private cremation for a small animal? It's more challenging but possible.
