I'm extremely disappointed and upset to hear about our sweet girl Sisi's condition. We came to visit her and were told she was euthanized due to illness and safety concerns. We feel like we should've been informed about her condition before a decision was made. It's heartbreaking to think that our sweet girl was suffering and we weren't given the chance to say goodbye or make decisions about her care. We entrusted her to your care, and it's devastating to feel like her well-being wasn't prioritized. Can we discuss what happened and explore options for future care? We want to ensure that other animals receive the love and compassion they deserve.
I do believe all the animals are well taken care of and the volunteers and employees there are really great! I’m really disappointed in the current adoption process at Animal Control. Ever since COVID, they stopped allowing people to walk down the kennels to see and interact with the dogs and years later, the policy still hasn’t been restored. You’re expected to choose a dog based only on a picture online first?? Without being able to observe their behavior, personality, or even basic temperament. Anyone who has ever adopted a dog knows that a photo is NOT enough. I went in excited to find the right match for my family, but instead I was told I couldn’t walk the kennels, and had to request specific dogs one at a time based on a picture. This makes the entire adoption process stressful, impersonal, and honestly sets the dogs up for failure because people cannot make informed decisions. It breaks my heart. These dogs deserve real chances to be seen, interacted with, and adopted, not hidden behind a policy that should have ended years ago. I hope Animal Control updates this outdated rule soon for the sake of both families and the animals.
I called prior to visiting the shelter and was treated respectfully when inquiring about an adoptable cat and their adoption process. I was greeted at the shelter and got to meet several staff members who had loved and cared for the cat I was adopting. Everyone was very friendly and worked in a timely manner. I highly recommend adopting from them. Thank you for my new furry family member, “Rooster.”
Adopted our beautiful kittens from here around 7 months ago but recently had a HORRIBLE interaction with one of the staff lady with black hair extremely rude we did sign the contract to get them spayed and neutered at an agreed date but had extreme car issues at the time. Completely inconsiderate and disrespectful scoffing when answering and seemed delighted when finding out we missed our date. Went to the back to “check with manager” when she went to likely stare at a wall after trying to “little girl” me and read the terms and conditions (which we already know) when adopting right after she already said no there’s nothing Alaska Animal Control can do to compensate with customers facing life challenges. Background checks need to be done before hiring people.
Staff and volunteers are awesome! Adopted my Shiloh from here when she was 6 months. Her previous name was Delilah. The process of adoption was quick & easy! Make sure to get your new pet have the vaccines and evaluation needed, & bring the certification to the center so your adoption fee will be refunded! Whatever pet you adopt, for sure it will bring you joy, therapy and good company. They can make your house messy with all the furs/hairs & ripped stuff toys or socks! But the love this new family member gives you is priceless! Thanks to all the staff, volunteers, supporters & friends of the Animal Care & Control Center! Keep up the great work!
